(Since it is all GNU GPL - correct me if I'm wrong)įrom the technical side, the challenge will be to adapt other emulators (ex PearPC) to reuse VirtualBox stuff. It will be more interesting for other emulator development communities to grab the experience of the open source GUI and standards of VirtualBox in their emulators. (If anybody think on a business reason is welcome to post it) Of course, I don't think that Oracle will be interested on formally participate, since it does has a business reason to make Mac OS X (PPC), Mac OS 7, 8, 9 or PPC BeOS to run on a virtual/emulated environments. This are some fake pictures demonstrate the idea. The idea will be to join this emulators with VirtualBox so users can have the posibility to run older Operating Systems Emulated under the same GUI, and try to reuse as much of open source software that VirtualBox can provide. SheepShaver- PowerPC G4 - Runs BeOS/PPC R4/R5, Linux/ppc, Linux/ia32 (AKA x86), Linux/amd64 (Opteron, Athlon64), Darwin/ppc (MacOS 7.5.2 thru 9.0.4.) - License: GNU GPL.QEMU- x86 - Runs DOS, Windows - License: GNU GPL.Basilisk II - 68k Macintosh - Runs MacOS thru 7.5 - License: GNU GPL.PearPC - PowerPC Emu - Runs MacOS 8.0, 9.0, 10.4 - License: GNU GPL.Bochs - x86 Emu - Runs DOS, Windows - Lincese: GNU Lesser GPL.We had the following Open Source emulation software: But since it is open source it will be a great idea to also make a side project put together some emulators with the VBox GUI.
